Well, a 41-year-old Janjep Carlos from the Philippines has just secured the crown for Mr Gay World 2019 after competing against 21 delegates from around the globe. The event was hosted on Africa’s soil, South Africa.

Soth Africa has hosted the competition four times in the organisation’s 11-year history.

The pageant was used as a platform for the 22 contestants to voice their opinion on issues such as homophobia, inclusion, equality, racism, and gender identity.

This is the second time Janjep Carlos will compete for the crown, he also won two other titles including Best in National Costume and Best in Written Exam.

According to the organizers, Janjep will continue to tackle mental health awareness as his social cause and work towards turning the illness into wellness.

Former Expresso presenter Ewan Strydom hosted the night’s proceedings, and US boy band 5West, as well as S.A local artist Tamara Dey.

A few days ago, a man came out as gay while giving his college’s graduation speech. Describing the moments where he struggled with his own identity, he announced to the crowd:

“I stand before my family, friends and graduating class today to say that I am proud to be a gay son of God.”
