The Shell On Challenge is the latest social media fad taking over the internet and it involves teens eating foods with the packaging still on.
Teens on SnapChat have been spotted in many videos eating wrapped foods ranging from sweets, cookies, banana, whole eggs and orange peel.
In most cases things like fruit skins are not usually dangerous to consume, particularly banana skins and orange peel.
The bigger issue is consuming plastics as it can be harder for your body to digest and can potentially have long-term effects on your body.
A pupil at McClintock High School in Tempe, Arizona, Liam Hamm, was part of a video that was filmed for Snapchat showing him taking part in the challenge.
In the clip he is seen eating and swallowing carrots after biting through the plastic bag that they are stored inside. Speaking to the Democrat and Chronicle, he said:
‘It just looks funny, because it’s not really a shell but people are calling things shells. I guess that is what’s funny about it.’
Doctors are warning people that eating plastic is not healthy.
