Embattled Governor of Kano State, Umar Ganduje who was scheduled to appear before Kano assembly today over bribery allegations made against him by publisher of Daily Nigerian, Jaafar Jaafar, failed to appear before the Assembly’s panel of inquiry.

We reported that Mr Mujtafah Adamu, the Secretary of the seven-man ad hoc Committee, who disclosed that Governor will be appearing before Kano Assembly today, said;

“The letter, which was signed by the Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Baffa Danagundi, and issued to the governor, is requesting his appearance to hear the matter from his own perspective.”

The letter reads in part:

“You may wish to appear together with your lawyers for the hearing, and enclosed is the copy of the video clips for your perusal.”



Governor Ganduje who sent the state’s Commissioner of Information, Mohammed Garba, in his place alleged that the bribe scandal is the handiwork of saboteurs. The letter presented to the Speaker of the House, reads in part;

“I never collected bribe, but I am not surprised that I am being sabotaged in the same way attempts were made to sabotage Emir Sanusi and former Governor Shekarau”.

The publisher of Daily Nigerian, Jafar Jafar, on October 25, had appeared before the committee and insisted that the published video clips were genuine and not a doctored document.
