Ogun House Of Assembly Aspirant Donates Borehole To Igan-Okoto, Ilupeju Community


As part of efforts aimed at tackling the issue of lack of portable water in Igan-Okoto, Ilupeju community, the headquarters of Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, a Lagos based lawyer and philanthropist, Hon. Kayode Adegbola, has provided a borehole for use of the community members.

Presenting the borehole to the people last week Saturday, the donor, who is an aspirant in Ogun State House of Assembly, Yewa North constituency, under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), said provision of good water is a recipe for healthy living and cleanliness in Nigeria.

According to the donor, “Water is an essential nutrient to human cell.

"The borehole is capable of producing 5,000 litters of water per hour and would work for six hours daily to produce 30,000 litters.

"I’m sure that the 30,000 liters of water from this borehole would conveniently serve a minimum of 1000 people daily.”

Adegbola stated that a community without pipe-borne water would be infected with various kinds of diseases.

The borehole was commissioned by the Adokun of Igan-Okoto, Oba Mukaila Salako, who stated that Igan-Okoto, has suffered lack of potable water for many years.

Their nearest water source before now was over 2km away.

Otunba Adeleye, commended the donor for his gesture and urged the beneficiaries to ensure proper maintenance of the water borehole.

A resident of Oke Ada, Mrs. Oyelanke Odunlami, commended the philanthropist for the gesture, saying the development would go a long way to end the perennial scarcity of water in the area.

Similarly, Hon. Adegbola, also presented scholarship programme, in which two finalists emerged, a boy named Onabiyi Samson Ayomide from Holy Trinity Anglican Primary School, Iboro and a girl, Olabode Sukura from Roman Catholic Missionary Primary School, Aiyetoro, Ogun state who will be attending The Vale College Ibadan on a fully-funded secondary school scholarship.

"I wanted to give the opportunity for others to get the kind of education I got because I am a proud alumnus of the school," Adegbola stated.

Some of the dignitaries at the scholarship presentation were parents of the donor: Mr. Gbenro and Mrs. Funso Adegbola; the representative of the Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Alhaji Gafar Babalola, the Adokun of Igan-Okoto, SSA to the Ondo State Governor on ICT, Mr. Olumbe Akinkugbe, and Otunba Sarafadeen Adeleye.
